Random thoughts

If you haven’t noticed, I have had a lot of trouble blogging consistently lately.  I really am trying, there just do not seem to be enough hours in the day.  Especially since my sweet little baby who sleeps constantly has awakened…and he is cranky!  I am trying to remember this is just a phase, a short time that will soon pass.  However, I must honestly say that I am not enjoying it.  He was sleeping a 5 hour stretch at night, now I am doing good if he goes 3.  It is usually only 2 or 2 1/2.  I know you are supposed to sleep when the baby sleeps, but I have three other children and a husband.  Clothes must be washed, food prepared, school accomplished, etc.  We are also in the midst of redoing our failed science experiment (for the third time) which is due on Monday, Dancer’s birthday party is Saturday, and I start back to the tutorial next week.

On the subject of having trouble posting.  I had to stop after the last paragraph…two days ago.  I am just now getting back to it.  By now, I have no idea where Iwas going with it so we will just move on.  We are “snowed in” today.  By that I mean it sleeted a little last night and therefore every school system in West Tennessee has closed school.  So, despite the fact that it is now beautiful, above freezing and there is absolutely no sign of snow, my kids are all home on what would have been my last free day before going back to work…not that I am bitter.  I planned to go vote today, it is the last day for early voting but there is no way I am taking all four kids to the voting booth, so I will hopefully get there Tuesday or I will be shirking my American duty to vote in the primaries (sigh).  I do not even know yet who I would vote for…I just feel guilty not doing it.

Well, believe it or not, baby just woke up and is demanding attention.  I will get back when I can.  Thank you so much to the two or three faithfuls who have not given up on me!  Have a great day and try to stay warm!!!

Happy Birthday!

Just a quick post to say Happy Birthday to Dancer!  Five years ago today, our precious Dancer surprised us by arriving 5 weeks early!  She has kept us hopping ever since!  This morning we started the celebration by going to Mrs. Winners for a cinnamon roll.  Daddy took the day off work and is in the living room right now playing Barbies with Dancer–a birthday wish come true.  Not only that, but both big boys are playing, too.  Who do you think rules the roost around here?  Of course the big boys can justify it because they are using G.I. Joes–much more manly then, say, a Ken doll.  We have pizza and cake to enjoy later today and this weekend we are going to Nashville and Dancer is going to make a Build-A-Bear (another dream come true!)  Ain’t five grand!  Anyway, I must go join in the celebration!  Have a great day!

P.S.  Aimee, in case you read this, I got in trouble this morning because I didn’t make Dancer a special birthday outfit!  You may have created a monster!   🙂

Tea for Two

Sunday afternoon and things are quiet on the homefront!  I don’t have long because Tigerfan has to go back to church soon, but I am trying to at least write a little something.  We had fun last night celebrating Dancer’s birthday at Chili’s.  The children even voluntarily went to bed early so they could watch a movie!  Today was church so I helped get the crew ready and sent them off with Daddy while I hung out here with the baby.  I would like to say how much I got accomplished.  How I sewed a little something or walked on the treadmill or cleaned.  What I can tell  you is…I took a shower, got dressed, put on makeup, fixed my hair and took a 20 minute nap.  Somehow, it seems more impressive if you list it all out that way, basically, I did nothing.

After the crew returned home and we had a delicious lunch of leftovers, sandwiches, etc.  Dancer and I went to her tea party at dance.  She had so much fun.  They got their nails painted, got blush and a crown, sang songs, ate cake and sandwiches and mints, made a craft, had a parade, etc.  She said she had a great time but she was going to have to miss it next year because she was going to have to take gymnastics next year instead of dance.

I also made the most unfortunate discovery that after paying for dance lessons and a recital costume the dance recital is May 31.  At some point at the end of May we are supposed to take a trip to Disney and there are strict rules about missing dance rehearsal for several weeks before recital–I am not sure how this will resolve itself-UGH!

On the topic of Dancer, she attended a birthday party yesterday for one of her best friends.  When Tigerfan picked her up, one of the mothers told him that when the girls were playing in the bedroom, one of the little boys tried to come in.  They were blocking him out and apparently Dancer felt the need to instill a little fear into him informing him that he better stop trying to get in because…”I am stronger than I look!”  She is menacing..look out boys!

Well, Tigerfan needs to go get ready for church so I must go take kid duty–happy Sunday and I’ll see you back here….sometime!

All In a Day’s Work

I am checking in!  I am so amazed that there are still a few people out there who actually still check this blog on occasion.  Each day, I promise myself I will at least write something, but alas those promises rank right up there with walking for at least thirty minutes on the treadmill–I have accomplished that once in three weeks!  But at least I plan on doing these things. Eventually.

I had big plans yesterday as well, they didn’t go well.  I should have known it would be a rough day because I was just so tired when I got up.  I told Tigerfan we were going to take it easy and have an easy school day because all I could think of was my desire to take a nap!  We started off okay with Football boy actually self starting math and doing a relatively good job.  This was impressive considering every other math lesson this week has taken a minimum of 2 hours and the most problems we have had was about 16.  Yes.  16 problems.  2 hours.  Do the math.  Or not, because obviously math is unpleasant in this house.  Anyway, at some point, everything went downhill.  Football boy seems to be entering into a stage of smart mouthdom accompanied by a deep love of Dancer and baby and a deep love of aggravating the stew out of Baseball boy.  Mix in a stage of total ego-centrism where the world truly is supposed to revolve totally around his wishes and we have our current living situation.  It really isn’t pretty.  If there is ANYONE out there with good parenting advice on how to help us help him PLEASE comment.  We have tried memorizing heart verses, praying, punishment, taking privileges.  The problem is…he really thinks he is right and his way is ALWAYS the right way (I will refrain from stating who he gets this from, Tigerfan :))!  I have pretty well decided he needs to be shipped to military school.  $30,000/year doesn’t really seem THAT high of a cost–does it?  AND he could just move right on to the Air Force Academy very well prepared.  This idea is sounding better by the minute.

Anyway, after several choice encounters with our eldest, I finally made it to take a shower after lunch.  I was very excited because we had a children’s worker appreciation banquet at church and I was going to get out of the house for the first time in three weeks.  The excitement only lasted until time to get dressed.  For thirty minutes, I tried on pretty much every non-maternity item I owned only to realize that a full three weeks post-delivery I do not have a single item other than warm up suits in my entire wardrobe that I can put on my body.  As I was realizing in horror that I would have to wear maternity clothes to the banquet, I looked out the window and realized that the loves of my life our @#$%&* dogs had gotten out of their pen.  So, I grabbed a pair of sweats and with soaking wet hair went to try to get the dogs.  Only to realize that the garage door  was up and those beloved animals had gotten EVERY pair of shoes in the garage and dragged them all over the yard.  I went about picking up shoes and decided I was not even going to attempt to get the dogs back in the pen….leave it for Tigerfan.  However, it took me another thirty minutes to close the garage because every time I pressed the button, a dog would run under the door and set off the censors causing the door to raise back up.  By the time I got back in, I was mad at the dogs, mad at the boys for leaving the door open, mad at my hair because it had dried in a most unpleasant way and mad that I had to go to a banquet with bad hair and wearing maternity clothes!  I was a lot of fun to be around!  By the way, I am giving away two black labs to a semi-decent good home…let me know if you know of any good prospects.

Actually, we had a great time at the banquet, I got to visit with grown-ups and no one said “My gosh, you are still fat…are you ever going to have that baby!”  So it really wasn’t a bad night.

Now I am home waiting on basketball to be over because Dancer has a birthday Wednesday and Nana and Papaw will be out of town so we are going to have a birthday get-together at Chili’s (this is the birthday place of choice for our kids because you get a free chocolate volcano thing…gotta love it!).  This will be the baby’s first big outing.  In all likelihood, he will sleep through the whole thing, but in the unlikely event that he is awake what better place to go for one who loves to stare at ceilings as much as he does…I feel he will find the giant peppers quite eye-catching!

On a final note, I just got off the phone with an old friend.  They have eight children, two of which are the boys’ ages.  When they lived here the boys were quite close!  Anyway, she called because at 10 years of age, their grandmother takes each child and a friend on a special trip and this is the year for D to go.  He is going on a cruise and who does he want to take–Football boy.  I have never been on a cruise.  I’ve never even been invited to go on a cruise.  Yet my 10 year old has the opportunity to go…does anyone else find this slightly unfair?  I’m just asking!

Pricked Again

Is this impressive?  A post two days in a row!  I am trying!  It probably won’t be a long one.  I am typing one-handed while I hold baby who happens to be awake and I feel my “happy”time is limited.

We made it through a whole school day and got all our subjects done which is quite a feat for us right now!  Baby boy has been soooo precious today–he really is a good baby!  We did get some bad news today, however.  His PKU test results were unacceptable–again, so tomorrow afterdropping off the “big” kids at tutorial, I have to take him back to the clinic to have his poor little foot pricked and milked for the THIRD time!  I feel so bad for him.  Pray they get a good sample this time because I do not think I can take doing this again!

Well, as promised I must go already!  My other children are begging to be fed!  I hope to be back tomorrow!

Finally, a post!

Well, it is Sunday morning, Tigerfan and the 3 big kids are at church (Tigerfan and Dancer in full LSU attire in order to celebrate their National Championship title), and baby is sleeping!  There are about 10,000 things that I should be doing around the house but I realize I have seriously been neglecting the bloggy world so I decided to at least write a quickie.  I am finally feeling like a human being again.  If anyone had told me it would take a full two weeks to not feel awful after giving birth this time, I would have never believed them, but it is true.  I do not know whether it is being old, having number four or having a really big baby (by my standards anyway) but it has definitely been a rough recovery.  I am back, however.  I feel good enough to be having a serious case of cabin fever.  I NEED TO GET OUT!  I am not sure it will happen before Friday so you may beging hearing a crazed woman on this blog at any time.  It is amazing how having a newborn in the house changes things (you would think I would be prepared for that the fourth time around).  There are just not enough hours in the day.  And he sleeps.  All the time.  If he is not asleep he is eating or crying because he wants to go to sleep.  So why can’t I get things done?  I realize that a part of it is because the rest of my family still insists on being fed and wearing clean clothes…but really, where does the time go?

Right now, we are trying to plan Dancer’s birthday and I really want to sew her a skort and an Easter bassket frome patterns Aimee has sent me.  I also want to try a little reversible dress that I have not yet got the pattern for but hope to soon from the you can make this website.  However, I cannot even get out to buy fabric right now so who knows.

I would love to tell you about my plans for Dancer’s party, and ask for ideas, but baby boy just woke up and is demanding attention.  Hopefully I will be back soon!  Happy Sunday!

How ’bout Those Tigers?

Well, it was a glorious night last night!  I have a houseful of happy Tigerfans and one very tired 10 year old who stayed up entirely too late cheering his beloved tigers on to become the National Champions.  For a girl who truly cares nothing about football, I am ridiculously happy.  One, because hubby and boys are happy and the game was pleasant to watch as the tigers were in control during most of the game.  I am also thrilled because while Tigerfan watched the game and held baby boy, I was able to FINALLY catch up on the ironing that had piled up to embarrassing heights during the last week and a half.  It is insane that that makes me so happy, but it truly does!  Probably because it is a sign that life may return to a sense of normalcy at some point in the near future!

Of course, there are also many signs that I will probably never regain many brain cells lost in the past few weeks.  I have forgotten to wash a load of towels, forgotten to start the dishwasher, and forgot to send snacks to tutorial with my poor kids today.  The older two took it in stride but poor Dancer couldn’t understand why I didn’t send her one!  My mind was a little distracted because I had to take baby boy into the doctor this morning after dropping off the other kiddos.  It seems that the PKU test administered in the hospital gave invalid results and so we had to repeat it.  I am very thankful that I did not have to bring the other kiddos with me.  I have finally seen baby boy’s temper.  He is so quite and so calm.  Usually.  Unless they prick his little foot and then milk blood out.  Then he gets upset. Very upset.  I have also forgotten, apparently, how to pack a diaper bag and managed to go to this lovely appointment without his beloved LSU pacifier.  So we had some mild hysteria for about ten minutes and other than a 20 minute eating break, the poor little guy has been asleep ever since, I think he wore himself out!

He is a good little sleeper, in fact I had to wake him up after 4 hours last night because I needed him to eat!  He is such a sweet little guy!  He was a doll when we tried to start back to school yesterday.  I cannot say it was the most productive school day we ever had, but we are trying!

I just had to take a short break to help Dancer.  My four year old Princess just taught me how to hook up a Leapster to the Television.  I find it very unsettling that my four year old is more technologically advanced than I am.

Well, I know this has not been too interesting, but it is an update on how we are doing around here.  I have had a little trouble getting the motivation to write (in fact, I have even had trouble getting motivated to read my usual blogs and that is unheard of) so this is the best I’ve got right now, I have to sign off because we have some severe weather headed our way and Football boy is getting nervous so I have to go man the weather channels.  Have a great night and I will update again….sometime.
